Dear Friends,

I've just returned to the big smoke, after 2 very productive weeks of recording up in the West Highlands of Scotland at producer Nick Tuner's Watercolour Music Studio. We recorded all the lead and backing vocals, plus the fiddle parts by the brilliant Gillian Frame - which are all sounding amazing! I also recorded a live harp and vocal track 'If I Were A Blackbird' with the talented musician Mary Ann Kennedy (Gaelic Vocalist and Harp Player). This track is the most acoustic, chilled out and traditional track on the album - so check out the first version on my music player and let me know what you think! We are now heading into the last instrumental parts and mixing stage, which is all very exciting - so watch this space! Thanks x

With love & laughter : )

Dear Friends,

I have some very exciting news!...... I have just begun rehearsing for my fabulous new album (title to still be chosen) at the Watercolour Music studio in Ardgour, Scotland. I've been rehearsing and arranging the album setlist with guitarist/vocalist Findlay Napier of 'The Bar Room Mountaineers' band , and producer Nick Turner of 'Queen Anne's Revenge' songwriting team. So far - its all sounding very good indeed, and we are feeling quietly confident that we are in the process of creating a fantastic album for your listening pleasure! This album is delving deeper into my Scottish folk roots by examining some traditional material, mixed in with my contemporary influences to create what we are calling 'contemporary folk'. Some of the favourite tracks so far are 'White Dove' a sailor's story, 'Selkie Song' a modernised ballad, and 'Forever To Sleep' a sad love story. We hope to put some of the demo tracks up on this page soon, but in the meantime take a listen to my 'Celtic Vocal Jam' on my MySpace page - sounds like a yummy sandwich!

Best Wishes
x iona

Back in London! PDF Print E-mail

Hi Folks,

Since last writing, I was a featured guest performer at America's leading Songwriting Conference 'TAXI', in Los Angeles. It was amazing to meet so many talented up and coming songwriters like myself at the conference, many of whom are struggling with similar industry issues, while also enjoying all the benefits that D.I.Y. technology now offers independent artists like myself. I'm really pleased to say that since attending the conference, and as a result of my performance at the event, I have received commissioned work as a songwriting collaborator, melody composer and session vocalist.

At the moment I'm really enjoying the balance between working on my own original material, and also working with other talented songwriters. Some of my most recent work has included setting poems to music, collaborating with other lyricists, and composing vocal melodies to existing lyrics and/or instrumental tracks. I'm actually in the process of setting up a new review page where clients will be able to write reviews for the work that I have done for them and also showcase the work that we have collaborated on together. I find this all very exciting!

As most of you already know, I moved back to lovely London in the new year, and I can honestly say that its great to be home in the UK.

Wishing you all health and happiness!

Well hello there! It’s a really exciting time for me at the moment as I am in the process of recording lots of brilliant new material with titles that include ‘Sit & Be’, ‘Sweet Karma' and 'Blow The Candle Out’. Since leaving London and moving to San Francisco last June, I’ve been very busy writing lots of new material, covering the styles of children’s music, folk, pop/rock, with some great new melodies, addictive hooks and luscious lyrics!

I’ve been feeling particularly productive and inspired by the sunny Californian weather, and also by finally having free time after six long years of being a vocal student! Life as a professional is both exciting and challenging, and I am still getting to grips with the business side of things, but enjoying the assistance of my supportive manager and partner Rob Malcolm.

This last weekend was spent recording three of my new songs for my latest demo in a new studio in San Fran with a fabulous engineer/producer from L.A. While I do miss the busy London music and social scene, I am soaking up the San Francisco experience and looking forward to making my L.A. debut at the Taxi Songwriting Annual Road Rally Convention in early November. So watch this space!
